Willie Hynes – the last of our relatives living on the farm in Derrymore – is buried, and has a stone, in the “New” cemetery on the main street in Roundfort. If you walk across the fields, it is quite close to Derrymore. Here there is a stone erected by his wife and mother (per the inscription on the stone). Also in that grave are his wife and his wife’s second husband.
The remains of Margaret’s cottage, and her bog, are now owned by descendants of Willie’s wife.
Despite what Margaret wrote in her letter, there is no evidence she was buried with Willie in this new cemetery, which is still in use and well maintained.
Roundfort is a tiny (and I mean tiny) crossroads town. There is a new Catholic church a short distance from the new cemetery. In the vestibule is what looks like a cornerstone that may have been from the old church up on the hill that was built (if you believe the cornerstone) in the 1800’s. Mass is held in this church by a visiting priest one day a week.
