The Envelope
The quest to find and visit the ‘old sod’ reaches back to 1925 when my great- great-grandmother Margaret Lally Hynes sent a letter to Grandma Margaret Manley about the local news in Derrymore, Hollymount, County Mayo, Ireland. The letter on this page was sent from the now closed Post Office which is in the middle of the main street in Claremorris. The unrestored part of the office shows what it might have looked like if Margaret went there to post the letter herself. Click on each page of the letter to enlarge the text.
The Letter
