<< Heritage Trip – France – 2023
Cousins Pete and Lee, Jr. traveled north from Washington, DC to visit ancestral towns in both New York State and Canada. The trip progressed in the reverse order from that of the LeMay/Delorm/DeLorme migration from France west to Quebec and then south into New York.
The New York portion of the trip had stops in Fordham (Bronx, NY), Glenns Falls/Hudson Falls, Schroon Lake, and North Hydson
The Quebec portion of the trip stopped in St. Anicet, Montreal, Trois Riviers, and Quebec. One of Michel’s homesteads was in Lotbiniere, a town we passed by on the trip back home.
In the Hudson Valley we went through the mill towns where relatives. In North Hudson and Schroon we visited the former sites of family farms and cemeteries before heading up into Canada.
Just over the border in Canada we stopped in the small town of St. Anicet. It was from there that Pete and Lee’s great grandparents Alexander and Josephine DeLorm (sic) married and lived for a short while before emigrating to the upstate New York towns of North Hudson and Schroon in 1875.
Trip continued on from St. Anicet to Montreal Island (home to several ancestral relations), Trois Riviers where Michel DeLorme was granted land on one of the islands at the at the confluence of the Saint-Maurice and Saint Lawrence rivers. We ended in Quebec which is where Michel first landed after leaving Chenehutte, France in 1653. On the way out of Canada we passed Lobiniere, the town on the south bank of the St. Lawrence River and up stream for St. Anicet, where Michel spent the latter part of this life.
